Stone for Pools and Gardens

Around water, two things matter more than looks: how hot the surface gets in the sun, and how fast it dries.

Why coralina is the pool stone

Coralina is porous, which means it absorbs water and stays cool underfoot even in full sun — the reason it is used on pool decks across the country.

Use a bullnose profile for the pool edge and coping.

The shade problem, and the fix

The same porosity that keeps coralina cool holds moisture in shade, and mould can follow. Two answers: fill the large open pores with grout and grind the surface back, or use precast coralina, which is densified and factory-sealed.

Gardens and planting

River stone suits planters, water features and rustic garden walls. Marmolina — crushed white marble — makes bright, clean decorative ground cover that does not break down.

Lighting and planting are what turn a stone wall into a resort-feeling space. Light the stone across its texture; the effect is far stronger at night than by day.

Frequently asked questions

Which stone stays coolest around a pool?

Coralina. Its porosity means it absorbs water and does not heat up the way a dense stone does in direct sun.

What should I use for the pool edge?

A bullnose piece — a rounded profile made for coping, stair nosings and borders.

Is coralina a bad choice in shade?

Natural coralina is high-maintenance in deep shade because it holds moisture. Use precast coralina there instead.

In short

Choosing pool coping, deck stone and garden surfaces in Costa Rica — why coralina stays cool underfoot and where precast is the better answer.
